A warm welcome to the originating place of Motihari East Champaran
Located in the East
Champaran District in the state of Bihar, India, Motihari is a quite popular
tourist destination that also attracts history buffs alike. It was this place
from where Mahatma Gandhi had started his Satyagraha movement against the
British. Hindi and Bihari are the prime languages that are spoken in this city,
which is located somewhere around 160 kms from the Patna, the capital city of
Bihar. Headquarters of East Champaran district are also located in the city of
Motihari.
The city is home to
Someshwar Nath temple, which is regarded as among the oldest temples mentioned in
the Hindu mythology. The temple with time has also become a major tourist spot
over here. Kesariya Stupa is another prime attraction over here. It is the
world’s largest Buddhist Stupa and is deemed as quite sacred too. Gandhi
Sangrahalaya forms up as yet another popular tourist stopover of this city.
If you want to see Motihari
in its full glory, you must visit here around the months of October or
November. Then there are other popular tourist destinations in and around this
city as well, such as Turkaulia, Navyuvak Pustakalaya, Motijheel Lake, Gayatri
Mandir, Kotwa, Jiwdhara as well as Chintamanpur. The city is not that big, with
its population being only of around hundred thousand.
Motihari used to be a part
of Champaran district before 1971, after which it was inducted into the East
Champaran district, and then simultaneously became home to its Headquarters.
The city depicts of a lot of elements of historic value, gathered from the
different rulers that lived here, which led to this place being preferred over
the others to be referred as a major centre of attraction.
The maximum recorded
temperature here is around 40 degrees in summers, while it dips to about 10
degrees during winters. There is not much variation in the temperature in the
city, with the lowest in summers being 21 degrees, while the highest in winters
in about 20 degrees. It rains heavily during the months of June, July and
August.
There have been quite many
popular names that have been associated with this district. Quite recently, Sushil
Kumar, a popular contestant of the Indian TV show KBC 5, who also won 5 Crores,
hails from Champaran district.
